1 Lord's House of Prayer - Why We Believe

Why We Believe

What We Believe

  • THE BIBLE The Bible is God's word and final authority in the life of a believer.   We believe the Bible is God's instruction manual for us, it is totally inspired by God and we honor the Word as final authority in our lives.  II Tim. 3:15-17; I Pet4er 1:23-25; Heb. 4:12

  • THE TRIUNE GOD There is one God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  There is one God, eternally manifested in the person of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  Matt.18:19; John 10:30; Rom. 8:11; Phil. 2:5-9; I Thess. 1:10; I Peter 1:2, I John 5:7.

  • MAN - HIS FALL AND REDEMPTION Man chose wrongly in the Garden of Eden and needs redemption.  Man was created good and upright (Gen. 1:26), but man, by voluntary transgression, fell and took on the sin nature (Gen. 3:1-7).  His one and only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God (John 14:6).  Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12-21.

  • SALVATION Salvation is a free gift of God which must be received by faith.  Salvation is a free gift of God and is received by grace, through faith, not by works (Eph. 2:8-9).  The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin (I John 1:7).  It is received through repentance toward God (Acts 2:38, confession with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord, and belief in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead.  Rom. 10:9-10; John 3:16; Acts 4:12.  We further believe that the inward witness to the believer of his salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit.  The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Rom. 8:16; James 2:26, I Peter 1:14-26.

  • JESUS CHRIST Jesus Christ Jesus, God's son, came to earth, lived, died and rose again for us.  We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who was born of the virgin (Luke 1:27), lived a totally blameless life (Heb. 9:14), died for our complete redemption from the law of sin and death (I Pet. 1:18-19; Rom. 8:1,2), was bodily resurrected on the third day having defeated Satan (Col.2:13-15), and now sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for the saints (Heb. 7:25) until His imminent return (Eph. 2:13-15; Rom. 8:27-34).

  • WATER BAPTISM Water baptism is an act of faith that separates us from the past.  A born again believer should be baptized in water upon repentance from sins (Acts 2:38) and confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Matt. 28:19; Acts 8:16; Rom. 6:3-6; Col. 2:11-12, I Peter 3:21.

  • BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT Holy Spirit baptism releases power to be a witness.  All   believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and should desire and expect to receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them (Acts 1:8; 2:4).  This, distinct from and subsequent to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, is manifested by speaking in tongues, spiritual gifts, and power for life and service in establishing the Kingdom of God on this earth.  Matthew 34:11; Mark 16:17-18; Acts 10:44-46, 19:4-6; I Cor. 12:7-10, 13-14

  • THE LORD'S SUPPER Taking communion remembers the price paid for our gift of life.  The Lord's supper is the communion of the believers that gather to partake of the bread and cup, the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; thereby commemorating the Lord's death until He comes.  Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 22:19-20; John 6:51-57, I Cor. 11:23-26)

  • DIVINE HEALING AND DELIVERANCE God's will demonstrated by Jesus ministry includes healing and  deliverance.  Deliverance and healing are provided for in the atonement (that death, burial and resurrection of the body of the Lord Jesus) for the complete man (spirit, sould and body) and is the privilege of all believers.  Psalm 103:2,3; Proverbs 420-22; Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:17; Mark 16:17-18; Luke 10:17-19; Acts 16:18; James 5:14-16, I Peter 2:24.

  • THE BLESSED HOPE Heaven will be the reward and hell the consequence of our choice.  Our blessed hope is the bodily resurrection at the end time; the just into eternal life and the unjust into eternal damnation.  Matthew 25:31-46; I Cor. 15:15-58; Phil. 3:20-21; II Thess. 1:7-9; Hebrews 9:27; Jude 7; Revelation 20:10-15, 22:5.
